The Salt Mines

Salzburg became a wealthy city due to it's vast salt mines.  We got to go down into a mine that was first used thousands of years ago by ancient Celts, and was in use as a commercial salt mine up until 22 years ago.  For some reason the kids loved the mines.  I think it was the slide.

It was Sunday morning, 9 AM, and the church bells were ringing for locals in the little village where the salt mines are located who had not made it through the doors yet.  A few families rushed by us!

Looking down the misty valley from the salt mines.

Britney and Sarah with an old Celtic miner.

Spencer and Taylor love the new look.

Did Andrew put those things on backwards?

The underground border between Austria and Germany.

This was really fun.  Many people ran back up the stairs and did it again!

Krista with the poor Celtic miner who died in a collapse long ago.  He's well preserved because he's salted.
